Snow Shoeing with K7

A few weeks ago myself (Naomi) and Philomena set off to Thredbo for a snow shoeing tour with Acacia from K7 Adventures.

Having never been Snow Shoeing we were really excited to get out and the weather was perfect. Philomena and myself purchased a chairlift ticket at the Kosciusko Express Quad Chair and jumped on with our snowshoes and poles in hand. The Kosci express is located at the end of Thredbo and takes you a whopping 572m in around under ten minutes! The view is spectacular and with a clear blue sky we could see for miles both towards the Victorian border, Canberra and the South Coast.

Once we alighted Acacia helped us strap into our snow shoes and show us how to walk in them which proved to be a little harder than we first thought. It didn't take long for us to get the hang of snow shoeing as we headed around the back of Eagles Nest restaurant and towards the summit of Kosciusko.  Acacia was on Telemark Skis as her partner Peter was already hosting a group snowshoeing further up the mountain.

Once were off and walking up the hill we began to warm up and just when we thought we could take of a layer or two Acacia introduced us to some steeper climbs to give us a taste of how snow shoeing could be more challenging than just walking on snow! It was great albeit a little bit of exhaustion at the top, rewarded with magnificent views!!!

After we finished our hill climb, we set off to meet Peter and his crew who were descending a steep section of the ranges... Peter had some French tourist's with him and they told us 'the view from the very top in unforgettable on a day like today'  We stopped for a while and chatted about which peaks were which, Acacia and Peter are fantastic guides and we were amazed at how much they know about the area!

  1. Looks like you had a lot of fun during your snow shoeing. It is always great to enjoy the view at the peaks before an exhilarating long ski downwards.
